Understanding Fibroids: My Personal Experience with Late-Onset Heavy Bleeding

At around 47 years i started having heavy menses, It was increasing by the month to the extent that i must use both a pad and a tampon at the same time to avoid messing myself, At around 47 years i started having heavy menses, It was increasing by the month to the extent that i must use both a pad and a tampon at the same time to avoid messing myself, At some point it got worse that i i started producing clots, and my tummy felt like i was pregnant, this terrified me so much and did not even have guts to go to get checked as I thought of the worst o u t c o m e . I avoided going outdoors during my m e n s e s t o avoid t h e e m b a r r a s s m e n t o f messing myself in public, it felt so clumsy at that age to be messing myself. However with all this going on i was so much avoided visiting the doctors as i feared for the worst... This continued for a few years until it got worse, One night i felt i needed to change my sanitary, the minute i got up from the bed to the toilet it was blood and clots all over, have never seen such scene,. I knew i need attention but did not have the guts to face it. It was on that day i called a friend and told her what had happened and my fears for the worst, Thats when she told me its not what you are thinking (cancer), its fibroids, So i got strength to visit the doctors. The Gynae examined me and confirmed that it was fibroids, and had scan carried out and some tests, and it confirmed they where about 5cm. And had to have a surgery performed. He explained to me that sometimes fibroids delelop cause of less activity in the uterus (conceiving) However some things which i wish i had done before surgery, to have several opinions.. And research more on the effects of having hysterectomy. After surgery I had severe hot flashes as it was an induced menopause. It was unbearable to a greater extent. Psychologically after surgery, I feel liker a lesser woman, maybe coupled with menopause, intimacy is not the same at all, Actually it has dropped to almost zero. Not s u r e i f i would recommend hysterectomy to anyone, rather have the fibroids removed
